4. Calculating Laytime for a single Port Call

Once you have created a port for your claim, you can edit the laytime calculator by clicking on the pencil icon next to the port that you have created.

  1. First, we need to define when laytime start and ends.
    1. In the video's example, on the charter party, there is a notice time of 6 hrs. We will create a descriptive event to handle that (this descriptive event functions as an anchor to other events):
      1. On the left top corner, you can ‘Add descriptive event’ by simply clicking on the icon.
      2. Allocate a name to the event.
      3. Select a date & time at which the laytime expires.
        1. In the video's example, it will be (NOR Tendered 05:00 + 6hr) = 19 June 11:00.
      4. Click on 'Create'. The new event will be added to the calculator.
      5. To delete an event, simply click on the bin icon next to the event.
  2. Select the events ranges to calculate the Laytime.
    1. In the video, we calculate until final hoses were disconnected.
  3. The (+) icons on the left-hand side of each event will add time to the laytime calculator.
    1. A total time will be shown in green on the left-hand side of the screen.
  4. To subtract events from the laytime, click on the (-) icon on the right-hand side of the event. These events' time will be shown in red, and deducted from the initial time that has been calculated (in green).
    1. A total time will be shown (in red) on the right-hand side of the screen.
  5. The 'Factor':
    1. If a duration is not to be counting for a 100%, for example, in the case of shared waiting time, you can prorate by adjusting the Factor percentage manually.
  6. To deselect events that have been chosen, simply click on the (x) next to the ‘factor’ icon on each side of the screen.
  7. Select ‘Save & Close’.

5. Exporting a demurrage calculation file

Once you have completed the laytime calculations for all the ports listed in your demurrage claim, you can click on the right-hand side arrow, to see the ranges summarized for which demurrage was calculated.

To export the demurrage calculation:

  1. Go to the Demurrage tab.
  2. Click on the ‘Download’ icon to the right top corner of the screen.
  3. Define the ‘Charterer’, ‘Fixture Date’, ‘Contract Type’, ‘Boilerplate’.
  4. Click 'Download'.
  5. A file will be generated, which can be downloaded to your computer and/or shared with others.
