Feature Area: Claims Manager — Demurrage Calculation
Impact: Multi-vessel claims (transshipment, double-bottom, and similar multi-vessel operations) — primarily ship-to-ship transfer and double-bottom customers
Overview
A prior release let a single claim carry multiple vessels, but every vessel shared one flat demurrage rate. This release lets each vessel on a claim carry its own rate, and — new this cycle — lets a claim pool and net laytime across its vessels under one settlement policy, so time saved on one vessel can offset time used on another rather than every vessel settling in isolation.
How It Works
- When a claim has more than one vessel, each vessel can carry its own demurrage rate, including escalating (tiered) rates, instead of one flat rate for the whole claim. A default rate applies to any vessel without one specifically configured.
- A "reversible cross vessels" toggle turns netting on or off for the claim. With it off, each vessel's time is pooled separately (e.g. three vessels each get their own independent allotment). With it on, spare time from one vessel's pool can transfer to another according to the claim's laytime distribution method — but only after being used within its own vessel's pool first; the calculation partitions by vessel before anything crosses over.

Time balance and contribution tracked per vessel across a claim's port calls.

Configure a default rate, per-vessel rates (including escalating tiers), and the reversible-across-vessels toggle.
- Statements show the per-vessel rate and amount lines alongside a settlement summary, and every rate change is logged against the specific vessel it applies to.

The statement view: each vessel's rate and amount, alongside the overall settlement summary.
Getting Started
- Open a claim with more than one vessel.
- Set a demurrage rate for each vessel, including escalating tiers if needed (falls back to the default rate if left blank).
- If your contract calls for netted/reversible laytime across vessels, turn on "reversible cross vessels" for the claim.
- Review the statement's per-vessel rate/amount lines and settlement summary once the claim is calculated.
Known Limitations
- The per-port-call time-remaining "pills" are currently hidden once cross-vessel reversibility is enabled, since they became confusing once time could cross between vessels; the team is looking for user feedback on a clearer way to visualize this.
- This currently applies to vessel-mode claims; barge claims aren't yet on the same unified model (a longer-term unification of claim types is planned separately). A barge can still be selected in a claim's vessel list, but is treated as a vessel for this feature's purposes.
- Rate history / audit trail and further refinements are ongoing based on real usage feedback.
